Karen John, Ph. D., is a developmental psychologist and Adlerian psychotherapist, as well as a clinical and leadership supervisor and mentor. Over the past 30 years, she has developed and facilitated university-linked leadership and work-based supervision training programs, acting as an organizational consultant to leaders and teams involved in integrating educational, social care, health, and community services for children and families in the UK.
Before becoming a self-employed consultant, Karen was the Director of Human Resources and Training of a UK-wide community-based mental health organisation, where she worked to broaden access to training and qualifications for those working within and outside the organisation. Her career began and progressed for more than 20 years in developmental psychology and psychiatry research at Yale University, USA, and the Institute of Psychiatry, London.
She is a faculty member and Secretary-Treasurer of the international Adlerian Summer Schools and Institutes (ICASSI), a vice president of the UK Adlerian Society (ASIIP), was an editor of the ASIIP Year Book for 17 years, and is the author of 85 articles, chapters, and books. Her abiding aim is to help individuals, families, organizations, leaders, and other professionals recognize and overcome internal and external obstacles that interfere with their healthy and socially responsible functioning.
