Dr. Len Sperry, M.D., Ph.D. , is Professor Emeritus at Florida Atlantic University and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is a graduate of the Psychotherapy Certificate program at Adler Institute–Chicago, now Adler University, and has taught, practiced, researched, and written about psychotherapy for more than 50 years. He is the co-editor of the Journal of Individual Psychology and is on the editorial boards of 13 other journals. Among his 1200+ professional publications are 100+ professional books, including Psychopathology and Psychotherapy: DSM-5-TR Diagnosis, Case Conceptualization and Treatment, Fourth Edition, and Learning and Practicing Adlerian Therapy.
Research Interests:
- Case Conceptualization: research effective methods of increasing the competency of trainees and practicing therapists on how to conceptualize cases. Case conceptualization is known as the “heart of evidence-based practice” and is considered the most important counseling skill and competency.
- Adlerian Pattern-Focused Psychotherapy: research various elements of psychotherapeutic interventions that effect client change by replacing maladaptive patterns with more adaptive patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving.
- Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy: research psychotherapeutic interventions that are sensitive to the religious and spiritual needs of clients.
- Integrated Health Care Counseling: develop training programs and research the emerging role of therapists in primary care medical settings.
