Richard E. Watts, Ph.D., is a Texas State University System Regents’ Professor and Distinguished Professor of Counseling at Sam Houston State University. He is both a Fellow of the American Counseling Association and a Diplomat in Adlerian Psychology.

He is both a Fellow of the American Counseling Association and a Diplomat in Adlerian Psychology. He has published and presented extensively on various aspects of counseling and developed the brief, integrative, encouragement-focused counseling process known as Reflecting As If (for which he received the 2015 American Counseling Association Professional Development Award). Watts is the author of over 140 professional publications and has presented over 200 professional programs and workshops, including invited keynote lectures and workshops in Canada, England, Ireland, Israel, Lithuania, Romania, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and Turkey. Due to his scholarship and service activity, Dr. Watts has received numerous awards at national, state, and university levels.
